FAQ
Short answers about privacy, what works, and what it costs.
Is my bank statement uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and read by code running in your browser tab. It is not sent to Tallyrow or anyone else. The page can only talk to its own server (enforced by a content security policy), and that server only receives anonymous usage events, never file content. You can check this in your browser’s Network tab, or switch Wi-Fi off after the page loads and convert anyway.
Which PDFs work?
Text-based PDFs: the kind you download from online banking, where you can select and copy the text. Open the file in a PDF viewer and try to highlight a transaction. If you can, Tallyrow can usually read it. Scanned or photographed statements are not supported yet.
Does it work with my bank?
Tallyrow does not use bank-specific templates. It looks for a table with a date, a description and amount columns (debit and credit, or one signed amount) and an optional balance. Many layouts work; some do not. The preview shows what was found so you can judge before you download anything.
What do I get in the Excel or CSV file?
One row per transaction with Date, Description, Debit, Credit and Balance. Amounts are real numbers, not text, so sums and filters work. Dates are kept exactly as printed on the statement, because day-month order cannot be guessed safely.
How accurate is it?
It depends on the layout. After parsing, Tallyrow adds up debits and credits and checks each row against the running balance, then tells you if rows do not add up. Always compare the totals with your statement before you rely on the file.
What is free?
The preview shows the first 2 pages of each file. You get 1 full export per day, covering every page of that file. The counter lives in your browser, so clearing site data resets it.
How does paying work?
Pages are sold once, with no subscription: 200 pages for $9.99 or 1,000 pages for $24.99. Checkout is not open yet. You can pick a pack and leave your email, and we will write when it opens.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page has finished loading. The PDF reader is part of the site, not fetched from a third party. Turn Wi-Fi off and the connection indicator will say Offline, still converting.
Can it open password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. Remove the password in your PDF viewer, save a copy, and convert that copy.
What about European number formats?
Amounts like 1.234,56 and 1,234.56 are both recognised, as are minus signs, brackets and CR or DR suffixes.
